Laser Hair Removal

Hello Laser ... Goodbye Razor!
There are alot of myths out there about laser hair reduction. I'd like to clarify some of them. Let me first introduce you to the best form of hair removal:

What is Laser Hair Reduction?
Laser hair reduction use heat energy produced through laser beams to cause long term hair reduction. The heat created by the laser is absorbed by pigment (the colour in the hair) to destroy the hair and damage the root. When the hair is damaged, it slows the regrowth and kills about 20% of the hair per treatment. It was originally named hair "Removal" but was renamed by the FDA  to "Reduction" because of the possible need of touch ups in the future.

It is Safe?
First of all, laser hair removal with the LightSheer Diode is FDA approved in the US and Canada since 1997. It is the Gold Standard in hair removal. Some people worry about having a laser beam transmitted into the body. You need not worry, however... the laser beam can NOT penetrate more thatn 5mm into the skin, just far enough to vaporize the hair bulb.

How does it work?
The laser emits light energy on the skin to heat the pigment in the hair. When the heat is absorbed by the pigment, it vaporizes the hair shaft, travelling towards the bulb, vaporizing it and disconnecting the tiny vein that supplies blood to the follicle. This is all done instantaniously, with very minimal pain.
The senstation you will feel is similar to a needle prick. Others feel as those it is a small rubber band being snapped on the skin. The feeling is instant and does not linger. It is very manageable.

How many treatments?
Depending on your hair growth, you will require 5-7 treatments.
At Guelph Medical Laser we package our hair removal in a series of 5 - pay for 4 and recieve the 5th free! The cycle of treatments are every 4-6 weeks for facial hair and 10-12 weeks for body hair.

What will my results be?
Instantly the hair is vaporized and you will see some hairs being shed immediately. For the next 3 weeks you will start to see the other hairs fall out. From this point on, you will see patches of hair that do NOT regrow!  And you will also notice that the speed of regrowth is much slower.

What does it cost?
Hair reduction is alot more affordable than people think. Some treatments are as low as $45.00- 400.00, depending on the size of the area. In comparision to the direct cost of shaving or waxing, this might seem high. However, if you calculate how much you will spend on razors, shaving cream, after shave, waxing services, in-home wax kits etc... it will average in the thousands.

Example. Upper Lip Wax                 $12/month x 12months = $144/year
                                                            $144 x 45 (approx age 18-65) = $6480
Upper Lip Laser Hair Removal      $50 x 5 treatments = $250

Now think of what you spend every 6 weeks on your bikini wax... or back wax(guys!)

Laser vs IPL
Some clinics use and claim IPL "lasers" work well for hair reduction. However, IPLs are not able to reach the appropriate depth of penetration to full destroy the hair bulb. IPLs were originally designed to remove pigmented lesions (brown and age spots), not hair.
The LightSheer Diode Laser that our clinic uses is specifically designed for hair removal and works extremely well!
